THE COLLECTION

During each service we hear the Good News of all that God has done for us through His son Jesus Christ. We respond in praise, prayer and service. During each worship service the collection plate is passed around for those present to contribute financially, if they so wish, and in doing so they dedicate themselves to God’s work.
Where does the money go?
How is it used?

Sketty Methodist Church is part of the Swansea and Gower Circuit. A sum of money is paid quarterly to the Circuit, which is responsible for the payment of the Circuit Ministers’ salaries and the maintenance of their homes (manses). Each Church pays according to the number of members it has, so that the larger Churches help to support the smaller Churches. Other expenditure relates to the maintenance of the Church buildings themselves and lighting and heating costs.

We have no special fund raising activities, unless we are raising money for certain projects with which the Church is involved. Any giving is done on a voluntary basis, with each individual deciding how much they are able to give.

Some members give through the envelope scheme to ensure that they give regularly. Others take out monthly Standing Orders. Some members, who are taxpayers, give through the Gift Aid Scheme, which allows Churches to reclaim tax on the amount given. Other people prefer to give what they can on the day. Everyone helps the Churches of the Swansea and Gower Circuit to function.

An additional collection is taken at Communion Services for a chosen charity. This enables the Church to respond to any local need and also to the needs of the wider community in times of emergency.
