MISSION
“As the Father sent me, so I send you.” (John 20:21)
Mission is very much a responsibility of all of us here in the local church. Our minister (Rev. Richard Hall) is chaplain to the university. Our members share in offering hospitality to students. One of our ministers is chaplain to Swansea Prison.
Church members support work at home and overseas by using Mission boxes or giving donations.
Mission box donations are split between OVERSEAS MISSIONS andHOME MISSIONS , both started by Thomas Coke in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Initially most of the work had been in the hands of men, but in 1858 a ladies committee was formed specifically to support work amongst women. WOMEN’S WORK became an important part of the church’s witness and is now incorporated in NETWORK the overall organisation for women in Methodism.
JUNIOR MISSION FOR ALL (JMA) started in 1841, and today enthusiastic young people collect over £800,000, throughout the U.K., each year for the work of Overseas and Home Mission. Look out for our young people with their collecting books and boxes.
N.C.H - the Children’s Charity was started by Rev. Thomas Stevenson and has several projects in the Swansea area, including Ty Laura and Stepping Stones based in Killay. Stepping Stones is a group devoted to helping pre -school children with special needs. Collecting boxes for this worthwhile cause are also available.
The Mission and Education Team organise two meetings each year, which are open to all, to learn more about home and overseas work in Methodism and other Christian organisations.
